SMS Support?
« on: June 27, 2017, 12:37:56 PM »
Our VOIP provider recently added SMS support. We can now purchase numbers that have the ability to send and receive SMS messages. I know some of the Android Grandstream phones have SMS apps on them. I would like to know if the Grandstream IP PBX phone systems are capable of sending and receiving SMS messages via a VOIP connection? Is this possible? If so, how is it done? Thanks in advance.

This is what the VOIP provider specifications state:

To receive messages sent to one of your numbers, configure the webhook on the associated messaging profile and ensure that you have a server that can accept the webhook requests.

To send messages from one of your numbers, use our HTTPS API and authenticate using the unique secret/token that is on the associated messaging profile.

Anyway to support this with the UCM PBXs?

I use les.net, they've offered SIP with SMS for a while now.  I have no idea how to make this work with the Grandstream but, if I setup the account using Bria on my smartphone it works just fine.  It does not work with the Wave application, at least I have not been successful getting it to work.

I assume there is some difficulty getting the SMS through the Grandstream UCM to a phone.  I've done some basic testing without success.

Again, for now, using the Bria application with the $5 add on for SMS works.

I have used sipsak to test MESSAGE sending over a SIP connection, but when I try this with a Grandstream UCM, I continually get Authentication errors.
 - even after trying almost every single username/password combination that I can think of in the Grandstream UCM.
Does anybody know why I might be getting authentication errors when trying to send a Message from a Windows app or sipsak?

Please help I am desperate!

I would keep an eye on the GXP part of this forum (link below), until the phones can handle any sort of TEXT over SIP then the UCM wont do it either.  Not sure how far up the list this is to be honest.  I think its a nice idea, not so sure it will take off (about like QR codes, which i always use, but didnt really hit main stream).
