Another Caller ID issue, HT-502

RSS FEED

I've configured the HT-502 for every CID setting available and I still can't get the calling Name with the phone number. What's the magic trick here?  Grandstream doesn't seem to be answering their email.  My VoIP provider doesn't know. The HT-502 seems like a great ATA, but I judge based on performance.

Since this post, I've learned a little more.  In the HT-502 under FXS-Port 1 (the one I'm using), I had the Authenticate ID the same as the SIP User ID -- as instructed by my VoIP provider.  This was WRONG.  The SIP User ID should have been my phone number (DID).  The Authenticate ID is a number given by my VoIP provider.  Now corrected, people we call get our phone number (proper CID) and we are able to call toll free phone numbers.  We still have the problem with names not displaying for inbound or outbound CIDs.  I discovered this has more to do with my VoIP provider's local CLEC not sending on the CID name IN ORDER TO SAVE MONEY.  Local CLECs CHARGE VoIP providers for the service, so some providers do not pay for the service.  I'm still investigating.  At any rate, it has nothing to do with the HT-502.  I'd like to add that Grandstream's technical support STINKS!  The three *finally* email responses I got from Grandstream were broken English and completely irrelevant to the problem mentioned here.  I had to discover the solution on my own.

Grandstream have an issue replying to emails... And sometimes the answers are totally out of band. I submitted a bug issue related to CallerID 3 months ago... They're still "working on it"... I'm now considering shifting to a different hardware base. Concerning your CallerID problem, you're totally right. Due to legal issues, VoIP providers (most of the times) force the CallerID information, so nothing you put can change the output. You're better off checking with your VoIP provider about this issue. Cheers,W.
